
COOLAWARRA EASTER CLASSIC AUCTION 2008

With 43 buyers from New Zealand, Canada, UK and most states, the Coolawarra Classic Alpaca Auction hosted by Illawarra and Coolaroo Studs, NSW continued to attract a wide spread of clientele to its annual auction held on Monday at Coolaroo Stud, Mittagong. Hot on the heels of the highly successful World Alpaca Conference and Sydney Royal's largest exhibit in the industry's history discerning buyers paid up to 34,000 with a healthy average of $ 6,120 paid per lot offered with a total sale of $257,000.
The auction, opened by Mr Alonso Burgos from Grupo Inca, Arequipa, Peru the sale was preceeded by a colourful presentation of alpaca fashions presented by the Alpaca Centre Australia.
Top price female Coolaroo Coorie's Luna on behalf of Coolaroo, went to West Australian stud, Banksia Park owned by Jenny and George Jackson. Mrs Jackson, one of Australia's leading judges intends to utilise her genetics for the stud's embryo transfer programme. Top price male, Belbourie Mantra sold for $16,500 and will be exported to Tannis Froese of Winnipeg, Canada sold on the account of Mrs Glenda Salmon, Belbourie Alpaca Stud.

Now with up to 5 generations of selective breeding this extraordinary ‘Aussie’ livestock aristocrat, Coolaroo bloodlines have bred championships in foundation alpaca industries as far afield as China, South Africa, Europe and New Zealand, with those clients working ongoing with Coolaroo to draw from the studs expansive resources, know how and service to daughter studs.
Many clients have worked with Coolaroo for over 16 years and such support is highly valued and with them jointly we are able to harness the Advanced breeding techniques to accelerate their genetic gain to ensure their own sales. Consequently there are over 50 alpacas annually born to embryo transfer procedures each year and this will increase.
